Aspire, Believe - Together Achieve

Being a school governor at St.Barnabas CE Primary is a rewarding role.

I am John Tuffney and I am currently the Chair of Governors.  I have had three son's attend the school during which time I was a parent Governor.  I am now a co-opted Governor and became the Chair in 2018.  I live in Oldland Common and am an independent Speech and Language Therapist as well as running a small local business.   I am also the Avon Youth League secretary for Longwell Green Junior FC.  I enjoy being a Governor at St Barnabas as it allows me an insight into how this important part of our community is run.

The Governors at St Barnabas are all volunteers and they bring many diverse skills to the roll.  Our remit is to be a 'critical friend' of the leadership team within the school.  We are provided with data on the collective progress and attainment of children, which we are expected to review and question as required.  It is also our responsibility to ensure the school is a safe and happy place in which to learn.  It gives me and my fellow Governors satisfaction to be able to support the Head and the rest of the school team in their efforts to make St Barnabas a vibrant and successful school, full of smiling faces..
