Inspired by Great Britain's Tim Peake and his successful space mission, we've decided to name our classes after space rockets and launchers. In the words of Buzz Lightyear, 'to infinity and beyond' - at St Barnabas this is where we take our learning!
We are GENESIS class, welcome to our class page.
In Genesis class we fuel our imaginations by investigating exciting new topics which will help us create inquisitive learners. We look forward to exploring, as a team, new and exhilarating places where we can compare the similarities and difference to our own environment. Our hands on approach to learning enables us to use practical resources and in depth questioning, to solve a variety of different problems. We continue to build on our resilience, helping us to face challenges, which come our way and our eager and enthusiastic approach ensures we grab every challenge with both hands. Remembering our positive attitudes helps us to ignite our learning and reach our full potential. Our welcoming environment will enable every individual to feel safe to express their ideas and will enable them to shine their very brightest! By the end of the year, we will be ready to blast off into Year 3, armed with the skills which are required to have another successful year!
|Please read the three documents below. They outline the curriculum for Reading, Writing and Maths in Year 2. At St.Barnabas we use these documents to assess your children's depth of understanding throughout the academic year.|

Class fun and games
Genesis class had a fantastic couple of days getting to know each other and completing a series of challenges.
The children wrote their aims and aspirations for the year onto post it notes and then attached them to balloons. We set the balloons off which soared up to the sky to remind us to always aim high in whatever we do. I wonder if our balloons have reached the stars yet?
We had an exciting afternoon learning about Tewkesbury as part of our UK topic! Our year 2 balloons made it all the way to Tewkesbury Abbey!
In Maths year two have been focusing on place value. They have been able to use their new skills to complete challenging place value questions!
Look at all the rich vocabulary maths words we have been using!
We have been trying hard to be independent learners. Here are some of the resources the super learners have been using to improve their writing!
The girls have been busy at lunchtime drawing the things they have been learning about in class! Can you guess what they are?

We had an exciting visit from the Fire Service to help us with our new topic The Great Fire of London!
Genesis Class enjoying Book Week & the Party!
The Great Fire of London came to St Barnabas
Year 2 recreated the Great Fire of London on the school field. We watched as the fire spread from roof top to roof top and thought about why the fire spread so quickly and destroyed so many houses. We loved singing London's Burning too!
Genesis Class have thoroughly enjoyed lunch times since the Play Pod has arrived making swings, dens and much much more!
After learning about The Great Fire of London starting in Thomas Farrniner's bakery on Pudding Lane, Year Two designed and made their own bread. Kneading was hard work but the end results were delicious!
Year 2 Christmas Activities!
We have been building dens our shelters and working on our teamwork for our explorers topic.
