Aspire, Believe - Together Achieve

Inspired by Great Britain's Tim Peake and his successful space mission, we've decided to name our classes after space rockets and launchers.  In the words of Buzz Lightyear, 'to infinity and beyond' - at St Barnabas this is where we take our learning!

We are PHOENIX class, welcome to our class page.

In Year 2, we learn without limits! Starting our topics with a question helps to inspire us as we make our journey through each term and will help us to complete every mission.  Just like astronauts, we will face risks and tricky challenges but we will work together to support and encourage each other so that everybody learns and succeeds.  We use exciting books to inspire our learning, giving us a focus for our reading, writing and learning across the curriculum.  Our learning will be supported by practical activities, investigations and creativity.  We will visit new places: in our own country and beyond, meet new people and discover a world of new skills along the way.

We will be fully prepared for our end of year assessments and by the end of the year we will be ready to launch into the Juniors!

Please read the three documents below. They outline the curriculum for Reading, Writing and Maths in Year 2. At St.Barnabas we use these documents to assess your children's depth of understanding throughout the academic year.

Class Fun and Games

Phoenix class had a fantastic couple of days getting to know each other and completing a series of challenges.

The children wrote their aims and aspirations for the year onto post it notes and then attached them to the balloons.  We set the balloons off which soared up to the sky to remind us to always aim high in whatever we do.  I wonder if our balloons have reached the stars yet?

News Update!

Our class balloon has been found by Karen and Ruby the dog at Tewkesbury Abbey this has led us to go on a fact finding mission to discover more information about Tewkesbury Abbey.

Term 2

To begin our exciting new topic the Great Fire of London we had a very special visit from the Fire Service!

We loved the challenges we were set during book week by our Magical Neighbourhood Friend

The Great Fire of London came to St Barnabas

Year 2 recreated the Great Fire of London on the school field.  We watched as the fire spread from roof top to roof top and thought about why the fire spread so quickly and destroyed so many houses.  We loved singing London's Burning too!

Bread Making!

After learning about The Great Fire of London starting in Thomas Farriner's bakery on Pudding Lane, Year Two designed and made their own bread.  Kneading was hard work but the end results were delicious!
